Most forms of insurance are there to protect you against loss should
the worst occur, life insurance is different – it is there
to protect your loved ones against financial strain should the worst
happen. If you are the main breadwinner for the family then life
insurance can be especially important to ensure that your family
can cope financially in the even of your death or if you become
unable to work and therefore they loose the main income to the household.
The level of cover that you choose will depend mainly on how much
you are willing to pay on the premiums each month, as the greater
the level of cover and payout amounts the more your premiums will
be.
Life insurance is available to suit a range of needs and budgets,
if you are the sole earner for a large family and you have a mortgage
to pay along with all the regular household bills then you may choose
to get a large amount of cover to ensure that the family can afford
to cover the mortgage and live in the home. If however your home
has a joint income and you are not the main breadwinner then you
may opt for less cover and therefore have smaller monthly payments.
Most polices will not only pay out in the event of the insured person’s
death but will also pay if the person becomes terminally ill. This
can be a great benefit as it allows the bills to be paid and gives
the family the chance to be with the person affected instead of
worrying about how to keep the roof over their heads.
With some life insurance schemes critical illness cover is included,
which will pay out if the insured is taken ill with an illness or
disease specified in the policy. While this is not standard with
most life insurance cover, it is generally available as an option
at extra cost, and it is often cheaper to include it rather than
source critical illness cover separately.
Peace of mind is what you get when you take out life insurance
– you get the knowledge that whatever may happen to you, your
loved ones will be able to cope financially rather than having to
deal with money troubles as well as trying to cope with the grief
and mourning.
